I am passionate about teaching people how to best preserve their hard-earned assets after they pass away and how to ensure that their assets flow as smoothly as possible to their beneficiaries.
What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?

How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?

Age:29 Years Old
Official Title/Position: Assistant General Manager
Organization/Business: Guest Services Inc. at Homosassa Spring Wildlife State Park
How did you get into your career?
At a young age, I fell in love with cooking/hospitality and joined my local vocational high school program for culinary arts. After achieving an associate and bachelor’s degree in hospitality management and culinary arts, my career doors were wide open. I then moved on to work for some amazing companies named The Garden City Hotel, Ever After Farms Weddings, Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach, and SeaWorld Florida. All the skills I was taught through my journey and the managers who took the time to help me grow at each location created the manager I now can be.
How does your passion play into how you serve your community?
My passion for helping people and having a “hospitality heart” is the biggest driving force behind why I always lend helping hands. Staying positive for people who could have their whole day changed around with a hug, kindness, and a smile!
What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?
Nature is my absolute favorite part about Citrus County! Each day at the park I feel so lucky to look around and hang out with some of Florida's local wildlife and to share those animals with the Citrus County community is a true honor.
What's your favorite local spot in Citrus County?
Sunshine State Nutrition is my favorite spot to grab an energy tea and protein shake before going to work. The staff is always lovely, and it is great to see healthy options popping up around the county.
Who is a leader you admire and why?
A leader I have admired from a young age is Debbie Mahoney. She was a strong and confident woman in a very male-driven corporate position. She played a large part in molding me into the young professional I have become and continue to grow into. I admire how she could command a room and always made her team and clients feel valued. Mahoney assisted me in purchasing my first-ever professional interview dress. (I still have it from when I was 16)
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?
In the next few years, I hope to impact Citrus County in the employment field. We are working hard to create an amazing working environment with growth for our Citrus County Locals. Being able to offer multiple jobs in Citrus County over a range of skill set with growth opportunities.

Jump in! This life is too short, and time is super valuable. Spending it with other people in the community and helping each other grow is priceless!

State Farm Agent & Agency Owner (Property & Casualty-Life, Health & Variable Annuity- Mortgage Originator)
State Farm
I started my career as a State Farm representative team member at the age of 21. I was selected because of my amiable personality and the reputation throughout the community. During that time, I maintained 2 full time jobs and attended college at CFCC all at the same time (Finish line & State Farm). Throughout my journey I had many struggles and speed bumps along the way, but I was chasing a goal of being successful and it wasn’t until about my 4th year that I knew what I wanted to one day own my own State Farm Agency. I spent the better part of the next 6 years aligning and positioning myself to be able to accomplish my dreams. In December of 2018 this dream and that of having my first child came to fruition. I have been blessed in many ways and thank God for all he has done.
Growing up seeing what all my grandfather” Frederick Copeland” did for the community is where I would accredit my passion to not only serve but do my part. A well-known park and historically African American neighborhood in the community was named in honor of him (Copeland Park). He was a local small business owner as well (accountant), a community leader, a principal (George Washington Carver Elementary), a Husband, a Father, and overall, a provider. He donated his time, his money, you name it. I have always pictured myself following in his footsteps. State Farm also has this slogan “Like a Good Neighbor” that has always resonated with me. I strive to be the best version of me everyday and truly enjoy giving back.
The part of Citrus County I would say I love the most is the simplicity and small-town feeling. Its truly a place where everyone can “know your name”. We help each other. Its where I always said whether I moved away or not; I wanted to raise my children.
I had to think long and hard on this one as I can name many! But if I had to give just one, it would be the water. I’ve always loved the ability to spend time out on the water. It’s a luxury that not many have, and we do, So get out there and get a line in the water, go scallop, soak in the fresh water and relieve some stress.
The leader I admire the most is my late Grandfather. As I previously stated he was a man of honor, integrity, a supporter, and If I’m able to leave half the impact and legacy on this community that he did, I’d feel fulfilled.
As I continue my journey, I hope to be able to help more people in more ways. Whether it be though my State Farm career or with the countless ways in which I donate my time. God has given me many blessings and I plan to reciprocate them.
My best advice to our youth and young professionals is, Work Hard. There is no substitution for it. Regardless of what you are doing, do the best you can at it and good things will follow and trust that God has a plan for us all.
Fall down seven times get up eight. “He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life”

Owner
Citrus Inflatables
How did you get into your career?
I got into the inflatable party rental business in a way that I believe was truly guided by God. Initially, I was preparing to start nursing school, but then I saw a Facebook post from a friend who had tagged the inflatable company they used for their child’s birthday party. I wasn’t familiar with inflatables, so I clicked to learn more. That’s when I discovered the company was going out of business and planning to auction off all their equipment.
Over the next few days, I couldn’t shake the thought of that post, and it really felt like a calling. So, I decided to attend the auction. To my surprise, I ended up purchasing four inflatables and a small trailer! At the time, I didn’t know anything about inflatables or running a party rental business, but I was eager to learn.
Now, eight years later, I’ve built a thriving business, and I absolutely love what I do. There’s something special about seeing the joy on kids’ faces when they experience these inflatables at their parties. It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey!
How does your passion play into how you serve your community?
My passion for owning an inflatable party rental business is deeply connected to my desire to serve and uplift my community, especially children. When I first started this business, it felt like more than just a career shift, it felt like an opportunity to bring joy to the children and families in my area. Over the years, I’ve seen how something as simple as an inflatable can bring a community together and create special moments for kids that they’ll remember for years.
In addition to running this business, I also foster children, and that experience has only strengthened my commitment to supporting kids in every way I can. Whether it’s through giving foster children a safe and loving home or creating fun, memorable birthday parties for families in the community, I feel fortunate to play a small role in brightening their lives.
It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that my passion has become a way to bring smiles to children’s faces, whether they’re part of my family or part of the larger community I’m so proud to serve.
What do you love most about living in Citrus County?
What I enjoy most about living in Citrus County is the small-town feel and sense of community. People genuinely look out for one another. This is where I’m raising my kids, and I’ve never once considered leaving. There’s something special about knowing your neighbors and feeling rooted in a place where you can count on others, and they can count on you. It’s a great place to call home.
What’s your favorite local spot in Citrus County?
My favorite local spot in Citrus County has to be Bicentennial Park’s baseball field. We spend so much time there with my boys playing baseball, which is one of my favorite things to watch. It’s a great place for the whole family. While the boys play, my other kids enjoy the park. What makes it even more special is knowing my kids will grow up alongside the same kids they play ball with now. It’s such a tight-knit community where everyone knows each other and gets along, and I love that my kids are building those lifelong connections.
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?
I’m committed to making a positive impact in Citrus County by continuing to support and serve the families and children in our community.
Over the next few years, I hope to expand both my business and my role as a foster parent to have an even greater impact. Whether it’s through creating more opportunities for families to celebrate milestones or offering a loving home to children in need, I plan to continue giving back to the community that has always felt like home to me.
What advice would you give to another young professional?
My advice to another young professional would be to dream big and stay persistent, even when things get tough. There will always be highs and lows, but it’s important to remember that tough times are just seasons—they will pass. During those challenging moments, focus on doing your best, staying authentic, and being true to who you are. People appreciate realness, and it goes a long way in building trust and lasting relationships. Keep pushing forward, and don’t lose sight of your long-term goals.
What’s your mantra or favorite quote that keeps you motivated?
My favorite and most motivating quote is the Bible verse Proverbs 3:5-6:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
This verse reminds me to trust God fully, especially when things don’t make sense, and it keeps me grounded in faith no matter what challenges come my way.

How did you get into your career?
This is somewhat of a long story, but the key stepping off point was my time at the Academy of Environmental Science in Crystal River when I was in highschool. That not only reinforced my interest in the environment but set me on my career path.
That career path started with the Americorps Florida Park Service Program, then onto a OPS ranger position with Rainbow Springs State Park, moving onto becoming a forest ranger with the Florida Forest Service in in 2010 in Tallahassee, then transferring to Weeki Wachee so I could live in Citrus County with near family. During this time I met my wife, and we had our first child in 2012. I knew I needed to push forward for better financial security now that I had a family but I wanted to continue to serve, so I joined the U.S Army in 2013 as helicopter mechanic on the OH-58D Kiowa warrior while stationed in Ft. Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. Unfortunately budget cuts caught up to the military from the 2008 crash, causing the helicopter and my role to be phased out. Due to that I got out after three years in 2016, and returned to Citrus County and began working construction, where I did some line work building powerlines, operated cranes and other equipment as well, becoming a certified crane operator. However this kept me gone from home more than I liked and I wanted to get back into the environmental field somehow. So I was eventually interviewed and hired onto work for Environmental Consultants Inc. (ECI) out of North Carolina, on a contract they had with Duke Energy Florida to build the vegetation management side of their capital transmission projects in 2018. I worked there for 4.5 years learning a lot about project management and applying a lot of the skills I had picked up from past roles, and I also became a certified arborist. Coming on my 5th year with ECI I saw some opportunities to continue pursuing project management with Duke and I was hired on as a project manager for the capital transmission project group in September 2023.
How does your passion play into how you serve your community?
Knowing that the decisions I make on the projects I manage directly impacts the long term reliability of power in citrus county is very fulfilling. I also enjoy helping people understand why some decisions are made the way they are regardless of its state lands doing prescribed fires, or how hurricane response efforts are executed by Duke.
What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?
This is where ive grown up. Its where my family is, and on top of it all we still have those gems that put the nature in the nature coast.
What's your favorite local spot in Citrus County?
I have two. The first, are the docks in Wallace Brooks Park in inverness, as that is where I proposed to my wife. The second, would be the salt marshes out of Ozello and Homosassa. Great fishing, great kayaking, and lots of good memories out there.
Who is a leader you admire and why?
My favorite leader has always been Teddy Roosevelt. His “man in the arena” quote has always been very encouraging and motivating for me to keep pushing on, taking new opportunities and being unafraid to put myself in new situations where I can learn.
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?
I hope to keep improving the reliability of the transmission lines feeding citrus county, but I also have a growing interest in planning and development and how it impacts the issues I care about and I see others in citrus county caring about a lot as well.
What advice would you give to other young professionals?
Don’t be afraid to say yes to opportunities. They do not need to be perfect because no job or experience has be a life sentence. Unfortunately, you may need to leave citrus county to get your feet under you, but once you find them it is much easier to come back.
What's your mantra or favorite quote that keeps you motivated?
The path to success is paved with past failures.

Organization/Business: Southern Remedy LLC
How did you get into your career?
After my personal experience with my grandfather being in Hospice down south, I went to school to earn the proper credentials so I could work for our local Hospice. I wanted to make a difference in others’ lives like the Hospice organization in South Florida did for me and my family. They don’t usually hire people fresh out of school, but the manager gave me a chance & I ended up working with them for 7 years before venturing out on my own to start Southern Remedy LLC. I originally wanted to earn a nursing degree but the part of healthcare I was most passionate about was being able to really spend time and give extra support to my clients without having to rush to the next person. You build bonds with these people and learn so much when you have sufficient time with them. Southern Remedy provided me with the opportunity to do just that.
How does your passion play into how you serve your community?
I have a caregiver’s heart ; it feels like this is what I was born to do. I truly enjoy helping people when the need for care arises and if it is out of my scope, I find someone else in our community who can meet their needs. My passion for serving others helps me better assist the elderly in our community to safely remain independent in their homes, provide support to overwhelmed caregivers and visit to those residing in nursing facilities whose family is still actively working or living out of town. My passion also motivates me to help build relationships by creating events where businesses in our community can come together to learn more about each other and pass better referrals. It warms my heart to know I’m able to bring people together & that lasting connections are made from it.
What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?
What I enjoy most about living in Citrus County is the strong sense of community. Everyone is always eager to help each other & come together when needs, big or small, have to be met.
What's your favorite local spot in Citrus County?
My favorite local spot is hard to say because we have so many great places! I would have to go with Tangerine Tree Luncheonette in Crystal River.
Who is a leader you admire and why?
A leader I admire would have to be David Vincent and his wife Angel. To see people with such passion for our community and willingness to be so dedicated to the future of our county is inspiring. I feel confident that Mr. Vincent will ensure the necessary training for the sheriff’s office to be able to better serve our aging population and those suffering with Alzheimer Dementia which is a topic that really hits home for me, both in my business and personal life.
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?
I hope to make a tremendous impact on Citrus County by providing top notch Non-Medical in-home care for seniors in our community, to be able to provide true relief for full-time caregivers - helping to refill their caregiver cup and ensure those residing in nursing facilities feel remembered and cared about. I want to continue to bring all types of businesses in our county together through the monthly Fellowship Friday Business Dinners I host as an outlet for free relaxed networking in a family feel kind of setting. I ultimately want to see everyone be successful and prosper in our county & that starts with building connections.
What advice would you give to other young professionals?
Stay focused. Don’t give up when you hit rough patches. When you start to feel worn down, remind yourself why you started and how far you’ve come.

Charles Franklin

Age: 37
Official Title/Position: CEO
Organization/Business: Franklin’s Lawn & Landscaping LLC
How did you get into your career?
Ah, let me share a little story with you! You see, I’ve always had a soft spot for mowing the lawn. Back when I was 18 to 20, I even worked with a couple of lawn crews and took real pride in having a beautiful yard and tidy landscaping. So, one day, I mentioned to my wife at the time that I’d love to get a zero-turn mower. She wasn’t on board with the idea, though. But guess what? When she went out of town, I went ahead and bought one without telling her until I had signed the papers! While I was at Citrus Equipment waiting for everything to be finalized, I called my brother Trevor. I told him I was starting a little lawn business to help pay for the mower and maybe earn some extra cash. He was super supportive and offered to cover my monthly payment if I took care of our mom’s and grandma’s lawns until I got things rolling. Then, I reached out to Clay Osburn, my best friend's dad and a fantastic business mentor of mine. I told him about my new venture, and he was excited! He asked me to give him a price and start mowing his lawn. So, even before I officially signed the paperwork, I was already on my way to making some money! Honestly, I didn’t expect it to turn into a full-time gig. I just thought I’d pick up a few lawns to cover the mower and expenses. But with my commitment to delivering what I promised, doing the best quality work I could provide, and having some amazing support from friends and family, my little venture blossomed into a thriving business!

Mahoney assisted me in purchasing my first-ever professional interview dress. (I still have it from when I was 16)

Evan Marshall

Name: Evan Marshall
Age: 34
Official Title/Position: Special Operations Lieutenant
Organization/Business: Citrus County Sheriff’s Office
How did you get into your career?
My father was a Police Officer in Maine before retiring and moving to Florida. My brother, and Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant, Aidan Marshall worked at CCSO for 10 years prior to me joining CCSO.
Our parents always taught us to be compassionate and to help your community any way possible. I choose to work at CCSO to continue in my family’s legacy as well as an opportunity to give back to the community that I grew up in.
How does your passion play into how you serve your community?
Currently, I am a Lieutenant supervising the Training Division, Special Events, and the Marine Unit. Growing up in Crystal River and now living in Inverness my passion has always been enjoying and preserving the Nature Coast. Our Marine Unit at CCSO has made great strides in our efforts to preserve the Nature Coast while ensuring a safe environment for residents and visitors.
Additionally, I have two small children. They love being outside and appreciating the beautiful natural resources of Citrus County. As a lifelong resident, I want to safeguard Citrus County and its resources for my children and future generations to enjoy.
What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?
Citrus County has grown vastly since I was young, however still maintains the “Small Town Feel.” What I enjoy most about Citrus County is how the community comes together despite the growth. This year in particular, Citrus County’s strength has been tested by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. Before, during, and immediately following both storms members of the community helped their neighbors. Whether it was raising money, feeding those who had lost everything, helping the elderly, or cleaning up debris before the next storm arrived, our community showed strength and perseverance.
Citrus County is a unique community in modern times and is a wonderful place to raise children. Children in our county grow up learning kindness and selfless service which helps propel them to success in their lives. Once these children become adults they take these historical values and reinvest them into Citrus County or spread them to other communities where they live and work.
What's your favorite local spot in Citrus County?
My favorite spot in Citrus County is the Inverness Tsala Apopka Chain of Lakes. The lake is where we swam and played as teenagers. The lake also holds a special place in my heart as it is where I had my first date with my wife, Hailiegh. The lake is where my wife and I got engaged to be married and is often where we visit with our children now. Every time I am on the lake or pass by it, it reminds me of how fortunate I am to have such a wonderful wife and mother of our children, Hailiegh.
Who is a leader you admire and why?
There have been many leaders in my family, professional life, and personal life that I admire. However, I cannot choose just one to admire, but rather the overall concept of Leadership and the values that are associated with that term. Leadership is learned from literature, personal experiences, mentors, and failures. I have often admired leaders who face failure or adversity. A true leader is one that exemplifies Integrity and Honesty despite the climate or popularity of the decisions being made. Leadership is easy until there are tough decisions to be made, this is when true leaders are born.
My father and mother always taught my brother and I to do the right thing no matter the outcome and regardless of who is watching. Although this may sound simple or cliché, Leadership in its simplest form is guiding others to respond and make the right decisions. In my life I have taken many qualities from literature and mentors in my life to help make the tough decisions. I believe all of us can be leaders in different forms through collaboration and teamwork. This leadership value of teamwork is exemplified daily at the Citrus County Sheriff's Office and our successes are a credit to all members of sworn and non-sworn personal that step up to the challenge daily as leaders.
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?
I have been fortunate to hold numerous roles at the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office over the years that has allowed me to connect with the community as well as serve our citizens and visitors. I will strive each day to strengthen these community relationships and protect our most vulnerable from crime as our county grows. I plan to constantly
take on new challenges within the Citrus County Sheriff's Office working alongside our community partners to ensure a safe and enjoyable place for our residents.
What advice would you give to other young professionals?
I would encourage all young professionals to invest in education and their community. In third world countries certain members of the community are relied upon to provide food and water to their villages. In the United States, Florida, and Citrus County we do not have to rely on individuals to provide these basic life necessities. However, similar to other countries we rely on our young professionals to be the providers and innovators within our community, state, and nation. I strongly encourage young professionals to obtain a higher level of education in order to bring knowledge, ideas, and innovation to Citrus County. As a rapidly growing community we need educated leaders to blaze the path forward to building a strong, economically stable, and safe Citrus County. Education is now widely offered to all demographics and economic classes, where at one point in history it was only for the generational wealthy. Seize the opportunity to become educated in a field that will provide for your family as well as help the community that raised you for generations to come.
What's your mantra or favorite quote that keeps you motivated?
As a University of Florida graduate my favorite mantra and what I live by daily is the “Gator Standard.” The Gator Standard simply means excellence in everything that you do. This could mean small things like keeping your house clean and tucking in your shirt, all the way to tough decisions in the board room or during a critical operation. Each day I live by the Gator Standard and strive to be better for myself, my family, my organization, and the community. All tasks are important no matter how small. Exemplifying excellence in small tasks prepares you to take on true challenges in life. Most importantly, if you fail at a task, you must have the will and leadership to persevere, doing what it takes to reach your goals whether personally, professionally, or civically.
Go Gators!!

Lexi Clark

Name: Lexi Clark
Age: 26
Official Title/Position: General Manager
Organization/Business: Cattle Dog Coffee Roasters
How did you get into your career?
From a young age my parents would order take out often. There were hardly any home cooked meals, yet we would have freezers full of food so I taught myself how to cook healthy home cooked meals. Through that I found that I have a passion for cooking. I entered the restaurant industry at just 15 years old and have been there ever since. I started from the bottom and from my hard work worked my way up through each position and quickly found myself a General Manager by the age of 21.
How does your passion play into how you serve your community?
My passion for serving the community comes in many forms from serving food that fills their bellies and soothes their soul to creating an environment that they want to come back to that feels like home.
What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?
I relocated to Citrus County from Lake County when I was 18 years old and have never left. This community never fails to show up for something that is important and rallies together like nothing I have ever seen. Whether it was for an injured deputy, a fundraiser for someone in need, the loss of a beloved firefighter, major hurricane; whatever the case everyone rallies together for the greater good and that’s something to be proud to be a part of.
What's your favorite local spot in Citrus County?
My favorite local spot in Citrus County is Old Homosassa. From the Monkey Bar and their history to the Freezer. It has so much charm and so much hospitality it's so hard not to love.
Who is a leader you admire and why?
The person I admire would be my Aunt Missy. From a very young age she showed me what it was like to go through adversity and rise above. My Aunt Missy isn't even my biological aunt yet she assumed that role because I, as well as my siblings, did not have the best role models. She made sure we were fed, loved and we always have a home at her house. She has pushed me in more ways than one and I can honestly say I am the person I am today because of her. She told me from a young age, “you can let it consume you, or you can do better by it. Learn from others around you so then you know a path you need to take”. I have lived by those words ever since and can attribute my success to that.
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?
I would love to own a business in this community one day to be able to continue to give back as much as it's given me. In the meantime I take pride in mentoring the younger generation who work alongside me in hopes that they too will take pride in themselves, their positions within our company and become productive members of this community in the future.
What advice would you give to other young professionals?
The advice I'd give to other young professionals is to never give up on your dreams and don’t allow your age to stop you. If you want to do something, put your mind to it, never let anyone take that away. Be humble and be kind and give your all. You can do anything and everything you set your mind to.
What's your mantra or favorite quote that keeps you motivated?

How did you get into your career?
I began my journey as a nursing major years (or decades) ago but soon discovered that it wasn't the right fit for me. However, my passion for the medical and health field remained strong. After exploring various work experiences, I found my true calling in public health.
How does your passion play into how you serve your community?
For those unfamiliar with public health, it focuses on protecting and enhancing the health of individuals and communities. I discovered a career that allows me to combine my professional work with my passion for serving my community. It’s an incredibly rewarding field, and I enjoy collaborating with others who share my love for Citrus County.
What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?
I truly appreciate the small-town vibe of Citrus County. While I'm thrilled about our first Target, I can almost always count on running into someone I know while I shop. When challenges arise in our community, everyone comes together to find solutions and lend a hand. It's a beautiful thing to see.
What's your favorite local spot in Citrus County?
I love the atmosphere at Crump’s Landing. Nothing better than chowing down on a burger by the water and listening to music.
Who is a leader you admire and why?
Given my passion for health equity, Eleanor Roosevelt is an obvious choice. She was one of the early advocates for human rights, and her work was instrumental in creating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which continues to be referenced worldwide today.
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?
My main objective is to pass a county-wide ordinance that prohibits tobacco use in our parks, reducing second-hand smoke exposure for our community, particularly for our children. Currently, two-thirds of Citrus County’s youth are exposed to second-hand smoke, which raises their risk of health problems like respiratory infections. Additionally, cigarettes are the most littered item globally, and vape cartridges are not biodegradable. Who wouldn't want to keep our parks and waterways clean and free of waste?
What advice would you give to other young professionals?
Never stop doing these things: learning, meeting new people, being adaptable, taking initiative, and putting family first. You will never fail if you follow this advice.
What's your mantra or favorite quote that keeps you motivated?
If you are comfortable, you are not growing. For personal growth, you must step outside your comfort zone and embrace challenges.

What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?
I enjoy the sense of community I feel in Citrus County, I feel at home and supported here. Citrus County has expanded since my childhood and I still feel just as welcomed and comfortable here. I appreciate that I have the opportunity to give back to the community that I was raised in.

My favorite local spot is anywhere on the water. Attending Homosassa Elementary School, this was an important part of my elementary education and remains special to me today because of this foundation.
Who is a leader you admire and why?
A leader I admire is Mrs. Beverly Howard. Mrs. Howard was my first and fourth grade teacher at Homosassa Elementary School. Mrs. Howard was not only a leader in the classroom, but in our community. She supported her students in and out of the classroom and you always knew that she had your back. I strive to make a difference in childrens’ lives like she has and continues to do.
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?
I hope to academically educate our youth, encouraging them to enjoy learning in and out of the classroom. When I am not teaching in the classroom, I coach sports such as softball, track & field, and cross country. I believe this helps me stay passionate about teaching and learning, as well as showing kids that there are opportunities to learn and improve everywhere.
What advice would you give to other young professionals?
I would advise other young professionals to not be afraid to ask for help. Starting a new career last year it was important for me to be able to lean in to the people around me for help when I needed it. I was surrounded by supportive and helpful individuals that were always eager to encourage and assist me when I asked. Being able to ask for and receiving that support was a huge part of my success and helped me find my passion in education.
What's your mantra or favorite quote that keeps you motivated?
My favorite quote is “Wash the plate not because it is dirty, but because you love the person who will use it next.” by Mother Teresa. It helps me keep in mind that grand gestures of kindness can make a difference, but small acts of kindness can be just as impactful. Acts of kindness should be performed out of love and care for others, not obligation.
Matthew Taylor

Age: 20
Official Title/Position: Tattoo Artist / Movement Director / Art Instructor
Organization/Business: Twistid Ink / Twistid Arts Initiative
How did you get into your career?
- I was given the opportunity to join the Twistid team during my senior year of high school based on my art portfolio and theatre work ethic. I completed a year apprenticeship at the shop and was soon licensed to become a junior artist. Within the second year, the Twistid Arts Initiative was established and I was titled the Movement Director for our theatre projects as well as an art teacher for our art classes.
How does your passion play into how you serve your community?
- Art is my passion, both visual and performing. With the Twistid Arts, we supply students of all ages a place to learn and grow their artistic abilities. I believe art is necessary for the community and allows a place and a voice for anyone willing to try. We host painting classes, art academies, theatre programs, and community events, open to everyone, all in the name of art.
What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?
- The thing I enjoy most about living in Citrus County is the community. Typical answer, but it’s true. Seeing everyone who has come out to support the arts and enjoy their time at our events has always pushed me to continue working with the initiative. The more we’ve come in contact with the community, the more of a positive bond has been spread through at least one common interest, art.
What's your favorite local spot in Citrus County?
- My favorite Citrus County spot is the Historic Courthouse in Inverness because of its unique history and beautiful architecture. I got to learn textbooks worth of information within the past two years of doing the historic haunt.
Who is a leader you admire and why?
- One leader I admire is Kristen Neander. She is the Chapter Director for Florida State Thespians and also my high school theatre teacher. She is a prime example of never settling for less, always speaks her truth, and shows hard work and dedication are worth all the hardship along the way. As long as you are passionate about something, you can attain whatever goal you set, within reason of course.
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?
- I hope to stick with the Twistid Arts Initiative and promote a more art-appreciative and inclusive community. I hope to push boundaries with the shows we do, go on to make more artists within our community, and bring together even more of our community with our events.
What advice would you give to other young professionals?
- Focus on your passions and hone your craft. I’m still learning and growing myself, but from the people I’ve had the opportunity to work and meet with, if you really want something, work hard for it. And if you’re passionate about your craft, is it really work?
What's your mantra or favorite quote that keeps you motivated?
- “It’s a good day, if I say so!” - Rico Nasty
- This quote reminds me that I am a product of my own environment. I make sense of what is presented to me and stay in control of my own emotions.

Organization/Business: YMCA of the Suncoast
How did you get into your career?
I have always been passionate about children’s development. In high school I started my early childhood education courses and began working for the YMCA doing enrichment activities. Once I completed my courses I was able to take a role in the before and after care programs.
How does your passion play into how you serve your community?
My passion is to ensure every child has opportunities to achieve their fullest potential. This passion fuels mine and my teams mission to provide quality programs where children can have those opportunities and be successful.
What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?
I love Citrus’s small town charm! Everywhere you go, you know someone. The people in Citrus care about our community and neighbors can rely on each other when in need.
What's your favorite local spot in Citrus County?
As cheesy as it sounds the YMCA is my favorite local spot. It offers the community a place to come together and gives people a sense of belonging. There is never a day where you walk into the YMCA and there is not a lobby full of people enjoying time together. It is a great place to fight loneliness and become healthier.
Who is a leader you admire and why?
I have many people in my life that exhibit strong and positive leadership characteristics. Through my respect and admiration, I use the following people as mentors to be the best leader I can be.
Nerissa Rosario taught me to balance work and life. Her strong will and can do attitude always ensured we achieved goals regardless of obstacles and taught me to always keep trying. She made a significant role in my journey of building self-assurance and having confidence.
My current supervisor, Stephen Hutchinson, models daily what a compassionate and caring leader is. He is always able to see things from others point of view and in some cases help them see the big bigger. Stephen has a unique ability to inspire and guide others in such an effortless way.
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?
I would love for there to be an increase in trained childcare workers so that there are more quality childcare programs available to working parents that are also affordable.
What advice would you give to other young professionals?
Don’t let your age hold you back from pursuing and achieving amazing things.
What's your mantra or favorite quote that keeps you motivated?
I am very passionate about ensuring every child feels supported and cared about. My favorite quote is “every kid is one caring adult away from being a success story” by Josh Shipp.
Megan Spelich

Name: Megan Spelich
Age: 35
Official Title/Position: 5th Grade Teacher
Organization/Business: Rock Crusher Elementary School
How did you get into your career?
I have a degree in anthropology from USF and that degree led to a job as a Zoo Educator at Busch Gardens in Tampa. This experience led to a love for teaching and my current career as an educator in Citrus County Schools. I love building relationships with my students, celebrating their accomplishments, and watching them succeed each year. They push me to be the best version of myself and I want to challenge them to reach their highest potential. My mother was a teacher in Citrus County and my aunt and grandfather were both teachers in Delaware. The love and passion for teaching runs in my family.
How does your passion play into how you serve your community?
As a Citrus County native, I love our small community and am privileged to give back to the community that raised me. I have taught for 11 years in our school system, coached high school volleyball, and am a Board Member for Gulf Archaeology Institute. In addition to teaching 5th grade, I am the Safety Patrol Sponsor for our school site. I am passionate about working with our Safety Patrol students. I challenge them to be excellent role models for younger students and to instill responsibility and respect in them. They work hard fundraising and making connections in our community that have a positive effect on our school. I love to follow their journeys after they leave elementary school and see what amazing individuals they become.
What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?
I grew up in Citrus County and I love being able to raise my children in the community that raised me. I love our small town feel, even though our county has expanded, and our sense of community.
What's your favorite local spot in Citrus County?
My favorite local spot in Citrus County would have to be all of our beautiful parks. We have wonderful parks all over our county that provide different things. Some parks are by the water, some are out in the woods, and many are in neighborhoods. Many of our parks have been updated since I was a child, and I love watching my children get to enjoy these special places.
Who is a leader you admire and why?
A leader that I admire and who began my love for animals and teaching would be Jane Goodall. Jane inspired me to want to be a scientist and I followed that dream into college and my first career. I went to a few of her lectures when she came to Florida to share her passion with other fellow scientists. I still have a love and passion for science and am now a 5th grade math and science teacher. Sharing my love of science with my students has become my new passion and I hope to inspire a new generation of future scientists.
A local leader that I admire would be Rene Johnson. Mrs. Johnson was the principal of Rock Crusher Elementary School 11 years ago when I applied for a job. I didn’t have any experience at that time, but she believed in the educator I could be. She helped me grow into my craft and pushed me outside of my comfort zone. I am the teacher I am today because she believed in my potential. Her belief in me is how I want my students to see me. Someone that believes in their potential and success and helps to push them to achieve great things.
What advice would you give to young professionals?
Hard work and dedication are two of things I live by. My advice to young professionals would be to find a career they love, work hard, and give back to their community when possible.
What's your mantra or favorite quote that keeps you motivated?

Megan Maguire

Name: Meghan Maguire
Age:33
Official Title/Position: Marketing and Communications Coordinator
Organization/Business: Citrus County Property Appraiser’s Office (CCPA)
How did you get into your career?
Back in 2015, I had my first child. I had previously worked for a pharmacy and wanted to have better working hours to be more present with my family. The Property Appraiser’s office was hiring. After working in the pharmacy for over 8 years, I took a leap of faith and applied for the open Customer Service position. Luck was on my side and I was hired. Now I've been with the CCPA office for over 9 years, and it has been the best professional move I’ve made. Since starting in our Customer Service department, my title changed many times for the better. I was the Assistant Customer Service Manager in 2021, and right before I had my second child, I was told that I would be transitioning to a new position when I returned from maternity leave in our Administration department. Over the last several years I’ve had the great opportunity of bringing my customer service knowledge into the community to better assist our property owners on how our office can help them.
How does your passion play into how you serve your community?
My passion is to help others in any way possible. Over the last couple of years, I’ve had the privilege of being a part of our administrative team. I enjoy working behind the scenes to help our employees grow and showcase them as individuals. I also love being in a position where my knowledge and experience can be used to assist the residents of Citrus County.
What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?
I love the natural beauty of Citrus County and its waterways. I love that you can be boating and salt-water fishing out in the Gulf, swimming with the manatees in Kings Bay or you can be out in the lakes tubing, wakeboarding, or freshwater fishing.
What's your favorite local spot in Citrus County?
One of my favorite spots in Citrus County would be Sandy Hook. When my family and I are able to venture out to Sandy Hook in Crystal River we have the best time. Our kids and dogs are able to run around in the knee-deep water and play. We really enjoy the beautiful scenery and getting some “vitamin-sea”.
Who is a leader you admire and why?
A leader I admire is our Property Appraiser, Cregg Dalton. He has shown me what a great leader looks like. He has a great ability to inspire and guide others in such a fun, motivating, and effortless way. One of the things I noticed first about his leadership style was that he looks at an organization chart upside down. He is at the bottom and everyone else is above him. He likes to use the picture of a tree. He, along with our senior staff, are the roots and the rest of the office are the branches/leaves. They have to be strong on the bottom so that the top can flourish.
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?
Changing the outlook on what our government office looks like to the public. We have already started this, but hope to continue to improve with community outreach.
What advice would you give to other young professionals?
Tough times don’t last, tough people do. Learn to say no. If you make a mistake, own it, fix it, and move on. Step out of your comfort zone, you will be thankful for it.
What's your mantra or favorite quote that keeps you motivated?
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
Nicole Zarkowski

Name: Nichole Zarkowski
Age: 32
Official Title/Position: Environmental Supervisor II
Organization/Business: Florida Department of Health in Citrus County
How did you get into your career?
While in college, I took a class about public health and liked how the field takes a multidisciplinary approach to improve the health of not only one person but all people through prevention, promotion and protection efforts. I pursued my interest in public health further by enrolling in a master’s program and through this program completed an internship with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) within the Environmental Public Health section and have been working with FDOH within this section ever since.
How does your passion play into how you serve your community?
My passion for environmental public health allows me to serve my community by mitigating the risks associated with environmental factors that could cause disease and/or injury. These factors can be natural or man-made such as the food we eat, the water we drink or swim in and the air we breathe down to septic systems, swimming pools, tanning beds, tattoos and body piercings-just to name a few! My team and I do this through routine monitoring and inspections, education, surveillance and sampling.
What do you enjoy most about living in Citrus County?
I enjoy the balance living in Citrus County provides between that big city feel and small-town charm.
What’s your favorite local spot in Citrus County?
Any spot where I can go thrifting and find a bargain while supporting the community.
Who is a leader you admire and why?
There is not a particular leader that I admire. The reason is because there are many people who have gone down the path that I am traveling on now before me and every single one of them, whether well-known or not, has wisdom and guidance to provide. It would be difficult and not fair for me to narrow it down to one person.
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?
I hope to make an impact over the next few years by bringing more attention to the subject of environmental public health to the residents of Citrus County. Environmental public health affects many aspects of people’s lives but often goes unnoticed or underreported until there is a larger issue (e.g. foodborne illness outbreaks from improper food safety practices, contaminated drinking water from sewage, chemicals or fuel, mosquito borne illness threats from standing water in old tires, flowerpots, garbage cans and untreated pools and the list goes on). I hope to do this through continued community education and outreach events.
What advice would you give to other young professionals?
To not get too consumed over the fear of making mistakes or that you are not “good enough” for a position. Do the best that you can and make the most out of every opportunity when it presents itself. Remember, we all make mistakes and you are your toughest critic. Also, to start to build your network early on in your career. You never know when that chance meeting you had with an individual could be the person holding that missing piece of the puzzle you are trying to solve.
What’s your mantra or favorite quote that keeps you motivated?
When I am feeling overwhelmed or defeated, I like to listen to (or sing to myself) Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down”. It encourages me to keep going and reignites the passion I have for what I do.
Bio
Nichole grew up and went to school in the tri-county area. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Environmental Health. She is a double gator and first-generation college student. Nichole has been working with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) for close to seven years and started her career in public health as an intern and worked her way through the ranks to her current position as an Environmental Supervisor II at the FDOH in Citrus County. Who is a leader you admire and why?
A leader I deeply admire is my father. As a single father, he raised my sister and me with incredible dedication and resilience. He taught me the invaluable lesson of making the most out of the resources you have around you. His ability to overcome challenges and provide for us with limited means has been a constant source of inspiration. One of the most valued lessons I’ve learned from him is that success and money don’t mean anything. It’s how you love and take care of your family that really makes you successful. His leadership and resourcefulness are qualities I aim to embody in my own life.
How do you hope to make an impact on Citrus County over the next few years?

The business landscape is constantly evolving, and staying adaptable will set you apart. Lastly, never stop learning; continuously seek out new knowledge and skills to stay ahead in your field. And remember, don't do it in the light expecting people to pat you on the back. Do it for yourself and yourself only, and the recognition will come naturally, not forced.

How did you get into your career?
I entered education with a passion for making a lasting impact on society as a whole by shaping the next generation. Education has the power to transform lives, and I believe that by building strong relationships with students, we can foster not just academic growth, but also the development of compassionate, engaged citizens. Like many educators, I was inspired by teachers who made a difference both in their classrooms and in their communities, showing me how education can ripple outward to create positive change.
What do you enjoy the most about living in Citrus County?
I love living in Citrus County because of the close-knit community, which is a vast network of people who genuinely help one another. There's a strong sense of unity and support, making it feel like everyone is looking out for each other. Being close to the Nature Coast adds to the appeal, with easy access to the lakes and the Gulf of Mexico to enjoy fishing with my family. It’s the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors while being part of a community that truly cares.

Liberty Park is my favorite place in Citrus County. We love arriving by boat, and my kids enjoy looking at the wildlife around the park. We can almost always spot a few turtles! While we're there, we often stop by the Train Station for a treat, making it a fun outing for the whole family.
